Specific Data Providers


<odesi> provides access to data from a number of sources. One of the main sources of data in Canada is Statistics Canada, which makes data available to academic institutions via the Data Liberation Intiative. <odesi> provides access to DLI data via the agreement that each OCUL member institution has with DLI. In using Statistics Canada data, you are agreeing both to the Scholars Portal Terms of Use below, which clarifies acceptable uses of all <odesi> data, and to the DLI Conditions of Use. Please read the DLI Conditions of Use prior to using Statistics Canada data.

Another organization that has provided data to <odesi> is Canadian Policy Research Networks (CPRN), through Carleton University. Please read the CPRN conditions of use prior to using CPRN data (Changing Employment Relationships Survey)


Scholars Portal Terms of Use


User Agreement
Scholars Portal is a service of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL). OCUL is a consortium of 21 academic libraries in the province of Ontario, acting under the authority of the Council of Ontario Universities. OCUL has licensed millions of articles, electronic books, numeric and geospatial data files for the use of researchers and students of its member libraries. These resources are made available through various Scholars Portal services. Access to and use of Scholars Portal and the content it provides is governed by the terms and conditions below. By using Scholars Portal, you agree to all the terms and conditions of this User Agreement. This User Agreement is subject to change without notice.

Who may use the data
Access to Scholars Portal is limited to 3Authorized Users2 of the 21 universities in Ontario. Authorized Users are defined as educators, students and other staff members who currently are affiliated with an Ontario university. Authorized Users must not share user IDs and passwords or enable anyone who is not an Authorized User to gain access to Scholars Portal and the content it houses.

Permitted Uses
OCUL grants you a limited license to the content on Scholars Portal. You may search, view, download, copy, print, save, display, share with other Authorized Users, and post links to specific content to other Authorized Users. In some cases, you may also republish content if you have prior permission from the copyright holder of that content. You may do these things for the purposes of teaching, academic research, analysis, and/or planning of educational services within Ontario universities.
Without the specific consent of the copyright holder, Scholars Portal content cannot be:

  1. Re-sold
  2. Used with any product, service or application that you create or distribute
  3. Displayed or made available on any other website or server without permission

Warranty Disclaimer
OCUL maintains Scholars Portal as a tool to support the academic community in Ontario. However, OCUL provides no warranty and makes no claims as to the reliability, accuracy or integrity of the content it licenses from third parties. Data may contain errors, may not be current, and may omit important information. OCUL also provides no warranty as to the uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free functioning of its website.

Liability Disclaimer
OCUL employees, managers and other officers do not assume any liability for damages caused directly or indirectly by any action or inaction based on the content, information, products or services or other material made available through Scholars Portal, or by its non-availability.

Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless OCUL, its governing board, officers, agents, employees, partners, funders and suppliers from any liabilities, losses, claims, demands, and expenses related to your use of Scholars Portal.

Termination
Any breach of these Terms of Use could result in your use being terminated. At its sole discretion, OCUL may suspend or terminate, temporarily or permanently, your use for any reason, with or without notice to you.

Governing Law
Use of Scholars Portal is governed by the federal and provincial legislation in force in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

Copyright
OCUL reserves the intellectual property rights pertaining to its website's graphics, navigation and search tool design.
